  Atheism IS a religion! My profound apologies to Xians.

  in the course of my continuing research on why believers insist that atheists are religious, i stumbled upon a website (link below) that proves beyond any doubt that atheism is a religion.

  you can imagine my chagrin upon discovering that i, as an atheist, belong to a religion after all.

  i'm not exactly a member in good standing yet, but i'll work on it as hard as i can.

  You can imagine my chagrin upon discovering that I, as an atheist, belong to a religion after all. I'm not exactly a member in good standing yet, but I'll work on it as hard as I can. I must now admit that I'm a believing atheist with a religion to prove it.

  The religion is called Pastafarianism. The link will explain it all.

  How can I apologize to all those posters who have insisted all along that atheism is a religion?

  I guess I can't.

  I don't get it ... 80% of people in Oklahoma DON'T have a Tornado Shelter. Are they nuts ????

  i really don't understand.

  how can any homeowner in his right mind, not have a tornado shelter ???

  i understand that some people live in apartments and condos, but someone with any size yard (even a driveway) could have a shelter.. to me it's a no-brainer.

  On a TV tornado documentary, there was a man in tornado alley who built a very thick-walled above-ground concrete shelter. I don't remember how it was anchored to or into the ground.

  An EF-4 tornado came through; he got into his shelter; his house was blown away; he and his shelter survived.

  The problem with shelters like this is that they're probably very expensive to build, especially if designed to hold several families.

  Unlike earthquakes and hurricanes, which cause widespread damage, tornados have narrow, though intense, paths of destruction. Many people living in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas have never even seen a tornado. That's why so many victims are shocked when one finally shows up.

  In southern Pennsylvania, where I live, every few years an EF-3 tornado comes through. With the dense population here, there's always damage and injuries. But I don't know anyone here that has built a tornado shelter. It's one of those it's-not-likely-to-happen-to-me deals.

  This description would be considered an unforgivable insult if it came from anyone but the WTS. From them, it's a glowing compliment.

  BTW, since we are a "vast apostate army," I want to be a general. I want a hummer and someone to drive me around in it.

  Oklahoma Tornados

  i was listening to the horrible news about the tornado damage in oklahoma, and especially about the elementary school that collapsed and the kids that are feared to be trapped.

  so this 72 year-old man was interviewed.

  he said he wasn't afraid and had told his wife that the lord would protect them.

  And if his wife had been killed, he would have said something along the lines that God "called her home." Gotta have his cake and eat it too.

  When I hear people on the news say their "guardian angel" protected them from a disaster, I often think about their neighbors that may not have been as lucky.

  I wonder if they resent the arrogance of their god-loving neighbor claiming to have special protection from God. I would.

  And again I answer, the value in learning is to better our lives and the lives of others and the lives of our children and their children.

  I'd say that's tremendously valuable. I'd say that's the only value that matters.

  Sense of reality

  since leaving the jw's in 2008 i still struggle with a crisis of meaning at times.

  i feel like at times life has no set purpose and we are just empty humans floating in space.i struggled a lot with this when i left in 2008 but so no much any more.. i feel like my set version of reality was falling apart and i felt at times i was falling into a deep abyss.. .

  did any of you feel like that when you left the jw's?.

  Everyone who leaves the dubs feels the same way. We use different metaphors to describe it. Mine was a raft floating on the ocean with no land in sight.

  Imagine a songbird caged since a chick and then let loose. It's where it should be, but at first it will feel bewildered.

  This feeling will eventually leave you. Cherish it -- you'll never have such a sense of freedom again.
